Humanitarian context
More than nine million people in France live below the poverty line, and food is often the most affected household expenditure. This year was marked by high inflation, rising to 15% on food products and causing an increase in the number of people turning to food aid organisations for help.
BENEFICIARIES
Our activity
In the Île-de-France and Provence-Alpes-Côte d'Azur regions, Action Against Hunger has been working for more than three years alongside those involved in access to food and the fight against precariousness and exclusion. The aim is to better meet the essential needs, including food, of those who are furthest away from services.
We work with partners to measure and document food insecurity, its causes and the affected population. We support other actors to develop participatory approaches that enable project participants to give feedback on their situation and the impact of the aid they receive.
We also lead pilot projects in partnership with others and test and document new methods that could be better suited to meet the needs of the most precarious populations, e.g. the Passerelle project in Montreuil and the Territorial project in Marseilles to promote access to sustainable food.
Action Against Hunger co-produced and shared multi-actor studies on precariousness, access to rights and food, such as the operational research project ISSimars (ItinéraireS et Situation de vie en squat) in Marseilles, focused on people living in precarious housing.
Finally, at the national level, Action Against Hunger advocated for access to sustainable food for all through active participation in different national networks and discussions such as Réseau Action Climat, Collectif ALERTE and Collectif Nourrir. Based on its fieldwork, experience and collaboration with these networks, Action Against Hunger advocated for the effective implementation of the right to food in France, with policy changes that allow dignified access to sufficient, healthy and sustainable food for all.
